BRITISH FILM SHORTAGE
A new problem is lacing the al- ready problem-ridden British film industry. It is the likelihood of a serious dearth of British pictures during the next nine months, and possibly longer.
Such a shortage will mean that the present quota law, which the Government hopes to increase gradually, cannot possibly be ful- Alled.
The situation has arisen as an off-shoot of the crisis which began | last January. Pending reorganisa- tion of the industry, either from within or by the Government, .credit for producers wanting to make new films has almost ceased to exist. Financiers, Insurance companies, and banks have, gen- erally speaking, been cautious about lending any more money till the future development of the in- dustry has become more certain.

1 MET HIM IN PARIS
If exhibitors are unable to hire
presentable British films they will either, have to break the law by falling short of the quota or subsidise their programmes with such "quicklès" as are available. "Quickies" are those films made, mainly by foreign companies pro- ducing films in this country, at a minimum of time and expense for quota purposes. The presentation of too many "quicktes" and the dearth of more ambitious, bona- fide British films would go far to destroying such prestige as bas been gained by our studios in the last two years.
CLIMATIC ADVANTAGE
