Association Defeat Chinese Federation 4-2

Mr. N. L. Smith Presents Trophies

An unfortunate incident, resulting in serious injury being sustained by D. S. Blake, the well- known Kowloon F.C. player, and the ordering off the field of Tam Kong-pak, the Interporter and South China "A" player, who was alleged to have kicked Blake, marred the Governor's Cup football final played on the Kowloon Football Club ground, yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large number of spectators, which included His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, Mr. N. L. Smith, accompanied by Mrs. Smith.

The Hong Kong Football Association defeated the Hong Kong Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation by four goals to two. The score at half-time was one goal all.

At the conclusion of the match, His Excellency presented she Governor's Cup tu C. Parker, captain of the H.X.F.A. team. Mrs. Smith then presented the other Shield and League trophies won during the 1936-7 season.

+

A few minutes after the com-. mencement of yesterday's game Parker scored a beautiful goal from a free kick awarded for a foul by une of the Chinese players. Soon afterwards the Chinese equalised through Lai Shul-wing who gave Rowlands no chance with a well placed kick into the right hand corner of his goal. Play continued even and no further score was re- gistered. After the interval Blake (centre forward) shot a magni- ficent goal following a scramble in front of the Chinese goalmouth to put the Association in the lead.

The

to Chinese were able equalise again through a penalty kick which was taken by the Chin- ese centre forward. Although the shot

Short- ly before the final whistle, Blake, the Association's centre forward, who had played a splendid game was injured in the leg severely as a result of being kicked by Tan! Kong-pak who was ordered off the feld by the referee. Blake was carried off and later conveyed to the Kowloon Hospital. No further score was registered although the game was very scrappy during the last few minutes and the Asso- clation pressed strongly but were E. unable to convert any shots as the Chinese half backs. kept a strong Ramp lookout for Lands and Talbot.

Kowloon Tong Record Win In First Appearance

F. CULLEN'S KOWLOON DOCK RINK RECORD POSSIBLE

Saturday afternoon saw the opening of the Lawn Bowls League season, for 1937, when a full programme of twelve mat- ches were decided. The Kowloon Tong Club made an auspicious debut in the newly-formed Third Division winning their first match against the Hong Kong Electric Recreation Club at North Point.

K. S. Robertson's Yacht Club four (F. H. King, P. S. Cassidy und A. W. Brown) had the distinc- tion of registering the highest rink win of the day when they beat A. A. Lewis's four by 28 shots.

F. Cullen's rink (V. Ramsay, M. Ferguson and J. G. Ozorio) started the season in fine style scoring a possible-án eight at the 16th end to win eventually from W. Mair's rink.

Sixes were recorded by W. Mair, J. G. Meyer, U. M. Omar, R. F. LUZ,

kept the South China team penned. Holidge, A. M. Omar, A. Hyde-

In their own territory.

In the first Afteen minutes they 2 scored two goals and completely 3 outplayed the Chinese to such a wide margin that there seemed to be a possibility that a military record score would be registered but this did not materialise and it was only towards the close of play that they were able to find the net in the Chinese goal.

the trophies After presenting Parker called for three cheers for His Excellency and for the losing

team.

,,

The Senior Shield was received by Lal Shu-wing on behalf of the South China "A" team.

A bouquet was presented by Parker to Mrs N. L. Smith.

SEAFORTHS LOSE

South China "A" defeated the Seaforth Highlanders by three goala to one at Caroline HUI, on Saturday afternoori The Scotsmen had more than the equal share in exchanges but their forwards fail- ed time and again to convert shota in front of the Chinese goalmouth. Samson was not a great leader, while McGuigan and Ayres both made mistakes in passing the ball to him when he was well marked. The intermediate line of the Boots team held its own against the speedy Chinese forwards, and even in a line such as this Williamson was outstanding, and continuously opened up avenues for the outside men and despite the intense heat he was a bundle of energy from start to finish.

The S. Ching defence line was reorganised and included Leung Pak-wal at right back, and Char It was Kan-hung at right half. mainly due to Leung Wing-chu as pivot, that Samson was unable to do anything.
