New Constitution Of Free State

Dublin, Apr. 30.

A bicameral, or two-chamber, system will be restored to the Irish Free State under the new Can- stitution issued to-day and which Mr. Eamon de Valera, the chief executive, will submit, to the coua- try at the coming general election. The second chamber will be formed on a vocational basis.

The name of the Free State will be altered to Fire, the old name for Ireland (Erin is incorrect).

A striking preamble to the new Constitution' reads:

SLUM CLEARANCE IN LONDON

London, Apr. 30. Sir Kingsley Wood, Minister of Health, to-day opened a "block of flats at Bristol which are a new experiment in slum clearance.

The flats are being provided to meet the needs of small familles and elderly single people who are hable, owing to their work, to move to outlying estates and who do not require a full-sized house. The families who will occupy them are persons of very small means, and in this scheme the Bristol Corporation are tackling the hard core of some of the lower-paid workers in the slums.

The rents of the smallest fats are as low as four shillings per week, inclusive of rates, waters and electric light, and inside some furniture for the tenants.

Sir. Kingsley Wood sald the had greatest contribution that been made by the present genera- tion to social improvements and security had been in respect of better housing for the people. Reuter's Bulletin Service.
