THE RENEGADE
Ian MacEwen's Experience In Church
(BY SCRUTATOR)
The days which followed Ian MacEwen's experience in Church. when he listened to the preaching of Studdert Kennedy, were days of heart searching; days of oxhilaration, days of despondency. One definite project alone took shape in his mind, he must ser VG his new found Master. His service was the way of his whole salvation. There was no other way. But beyond this he could not see. He could not even discover how that service was to be given. Often he thought on the ministry. Indeed the idea, be- came a favourable one to him. It offered a respectable life and a comfortable security. Yes, why not return to the University”
Early in the morning and late at night he could hear the bells on the tower ringing sonorously every sixty minutes. Some- times they seemed to sound a call to him: the gentle voice of his Alma Mater seeking a renegade son. To-night her bosom was warm to him. Become a student again, a different student, a Christ inspired student. His father at least would be pleased. He had always wanted him to become a minister. He would be sure to want to help with the funds.

What day was it He pull- ed off the February page from the calendar. Why March too nearly gone! Spring Was here surely. He ate a snack and sat down by the open window. The rain-drops fell softly upon the back of his hand. The atmosphere was almost balmy. The sound of tram cars in Sauchiehall Street hummed through his head like distant music. The street spar- rows twittered along the rones. "A GOLDEN SILENCE Slowly the minutes passed steal ing away the blackness. from his mind, leaving it shrouded in a thin greyness through which seem- ed to shine a yellow light. He was not conscious of himself. ROW. Something deep within him thrill- ed to the sound of children's laughter. Unknown voices sung in his ears. But over all there huns a golden silence, vital, per- menting, blending all his sensa- tions into the single throb which quickened the beating his heart. Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang!
The bell of Kent Road School suminoned him to life, again. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. The ralu had ceased. He looked out and watched the chlidren entering the School, two-abreast, in neat orderly lines. He felt that he too should be doing something. But the sunshine was warm. Surely the hours would wait! He recall ed his half-formed resolve. The hours might wait but opportunity
sped on a swift foot.
'But must I return to University? Is there no way to serve Christ but in the ministry? Am I not free from classes and all the old life? Must I start all the hustle and toil again?"
DAFFODILS AND TULIPS He took his hat from a peg' and went out. Two minutes and he was walking leisurely in Kelvin-
KING GEORGE” VI. PRAYER BOOKS
Publication After Easter
The new editions of the Book of Common Prayer, containing the State prayers and petitions for King George VI. and Queen Eliza both, will not be published until after Easter, March 8 next, says a Home correspondent.
This has been decided by the au thorised printers, the University Presses of Oxford and Cambridge, to avoid confusion with the prayer books containing the name of King Edward VIIL
Under the term of a Royal War- rant, dated 17, 1938, the necessary, amendments, set out in
the Order of Council were made. and in compliance with this the prayer books were printed and published The Royal Warrant authorising the substitution of the name of King George VI. has not yet been issued.
By next April when the now prayer books will probably ba pub. lished, it is expected that the majority of booksellers will have disposed of their old stocks and the publishers' stocks will be con siderably reducech
