Membership Card Provides Clue
SHOCKING OUTRAGE IN PEIPING
Pelping Jan. 9, Amáisement and horror have been aroused throughout the for- eign community of Peiping by the tragic death of Pamela Werner.
Pamela was only nineteen years of age and was the only daughter of Mr. E T. C. Werner, formerly
Pritish Consul in Foochow.
The girl's body was found yes terday morning only about 250 yards from her home, which is in one of the loneliest parts of the city, near the German cemetery.

At 6 pm on Thursday evening. Pamela, who was a child in 'her ways, cycled into the Legation Quarter and enjoyed an hour's skating on the ice with a number of friends.

The most successful jockey was Mr. B. C. Elang who scored two wins and a second in five outings.
Incidentally, Mr. Lang was also responsible for the biggest dividend of the day, paying $37.50 on Rothesay Bay in the Lok Chang Handicap over a mile.
NANCHANG HANDICAP The opening race of the day, the Nanchang Handicap over one mile, attracted six starters, Laughing" Buddha, with Mr. Norman Delta up, being made the favourite. The deld was sent off to a good start and Pride of Taingtao, Mr. Y. T. Fung up, went into the lead. followed by Laughing Buddha and Cavalcade, the rest of the field. Plain View, Gold Sovereign and Miracle following in the order named.

Mr. and Mrs. Stafford Smith were their usual cheerful selves, and it is nice to see Mr. and Mrs. Womack back in the Colony again, the lat ter after a very long spelt of Eng- land.
