Brief History Of The Regiment
The 2nd Battalion, The East Lancashire Regiment, will be leaving the Colony on Tuesday, having completed their term on this Station, and they will carry away with them very pleasant memories of their stay of three years in Hong Kong.
The Colony too, will have good reason to long remember the Regiment, for on the field of sport and in the important part they play in the Colony's every day life, the Regiment as a whole. have done their bart according to the highest traditions of the British Army.
·Below we give a brief history of the Regiment:-
The official birthday of the East Lancashire Regiment is February 12th. 1702. and the Regiment so raised is now the 1st Battalion The East Lancashire Regiment. It was not, however, until October 1755 that the 2nd Battalion came into existence and the same year saw its number altered from the 61st to the 59th, by which it was known until 1881

Kilted Regiment Arrives
ON TRANSPORT "LANCASHIRE”
The transport Lancashire, carrying 800 officers and men, and their families, of the 1st Battalion The Seaforth Highlanders, ar- rived in Hong Kong early yesterday morning, a day late in her journey from Sonthampton owing to bad weather after leav- "Ing Singapore.
The Seaforth Highlanders are fresh from their campaign in Palestine where they were engaged in quelling the anti-Jewish- disturbances, which brought them into armed, conflicts with the Arabs on several occasions. Among the Seaforths are L/Cpt, A. Miller who was decorated with the Milltary, Modal recently “for gallantry during the emergency operations in Palestine between April 15 and September. 16. Captain E, H. G. Grant, of the saIDE →Baftalion, received the Military Crous decoration at the same time, but he is at present on routine leave. A dosen officers and some 68 men of other regiments and two men of the Royal Air Force were simultaneously gazetted.

The "Daily Press" has been in- formed by Mr. K. E. Greig, mana- ger of the Taikoo Dockyard, that his yard had received orders to construct two 10,000 tons liners. both of which, Mr. Greig said. would probably be placed on the Eastern - service.
The ships, which are for the Blue Funnel Line, will not be ready unti next year and Mr. Oreig added that it was now much too early to give any detalls regarding the construction part of the work
