Joan Berinett and Cary Grant co-starred in Paramount's comedy-romance, "Wedding Pre- sent," which is showing to-day at The Alhambra Theatre.
A hard-bolled city editor... a visiting Archduke, a New York thick-skilled gangster and his stooge, a writer of Inspirational novels, a German "Schnitzelbank” band and a staff of wise-cracking- newspaper people, keep the yarn moving at a fast rate. Heading the supporting cast are such screen favorites as George Conrad Nagel, Gene Lockhart, mez Courtney, Edward Brophy and Damon Ford

All The Velvet' was woven "at the Braintree mill of Warner and Sons. The silk used' was spun by last summer's silk · wörnis, at "Lady. Dyke's silk farm at Lullingstone Castle, Kent, and was reeled by girls employed at Lullingstone..
It was then sent to Maccelesfeld to be thrown-that is, twisted to get a suitable thickness of thread and at Braintree it has gone through the processes of boiling o" in soap and water and dyeing by hand to the special royal shade of purple.

It is calculated that she will | pm. make about three yards of velvet a week and that it will take about 14 weeks to complete the 41 yards needed for the Jobes.
Mr. R. A Pigrem, manager of the mill, stated that since this high quality of velvet is seldom in demand save for coronations, there are not many, weavers "sufficiently skilled for its manufacture.
and
"Between one coronation another many of the skilled wor-, kers drop out or, having been away from this type of work, lose the necessary deftness of touch,"

Movie audiences may not have known it, but that bright-eyed, dark-haired, Bancroft,
round-faced wise- cracking comedienne who keeps people laughing in so many plc- tures is a little Irish girl named Veronica Kelly.
The "Wedding Present" which Grant plans for Miss Bennett when she leaves him to marry the nove- list provides the picture's climax and title is such a startling present and so well-timed that it results in a reconciliation of Grant with Miss Bennett at the final fade-out.
Audiences knew she was Irish, all right, but they thought her name was Patsy Kelly. It isn't.

"MY MAN GODFREY" the Queen's Theatre, explains that
Write down all the words that mean funny, capricious, deliciously raffy and ebulilently loony. Add them all together and you have a description of Universal's "My | Man Godfrey," which opens on Sunday at the Queen's, Alhambra and Star Theatres simultaneously This outstanding contribution to the new movie season is humour gone on a spree, with the gear shift in high. William Powell and Carole Lombard, in starring roles together for the first time in three years, rise to new heights as ex- perts of light comedy and the repid fire retort.
Carole Lombard, as the reckless debutante, engages in high society game called Scavenger Hunting. She comes back with the "forgotten man," in the person of William Powell. She falls for hla overpowering masculine elfarm and employs him as the butler.
Gregory La Caya, one of Holly- | wood's aces,
directed "My Man Godfrey," from the novel by rle Hatch. This author, rated as a
