“WHISPERING PROMISES"
[The Editor, "Hong Kong Daily Press.")
Dear Bir-The examples of the workings of this Colony's health "officials bring to mind those fins and bits of strings which that celebrated artist, Heath Robinson, made his gadgety con- traptions perform their purposes. It is a long process of operation and, provided that nope of the reef-knotted red tapes ally, the tail end, will function
Since your paper started the agitation for a better and healthier service, the authorities have seen fit to utter whispering promises of an official report. However, 1 presume they have not yet. fully recovered from their surprise to find a suitable reply to make to their public.
Elsewhere milk dairies are compelled by law to keep their standard of production up to the standards of an official certificate issued by the Health authorities. For example, one has no fear there to believe that a "Grade A" dairy does not pasteurise its milk.
Now the question is; “Does our Medical Department-ever trouble to find out what other cities are doing to safeguard their people's health?

IN SERVICE”
[The Editor, "Hong Kong Dally Fross.”]
Dear Sir,--May. I express through your columns the bearty commendation that I, a compara- tive new-comer to the Colony, feel regarding the stand that you have taken in connection with. the scourge that is in our midet?
Your fearlessness in exposing an, untoward incident, through no fault of one of your repor« ters, is worthy of the highest praise.
That officials are sorely lacking in the service they should give to the public is very much apparent.
May I put the question: Do these officials realize from whom they get their bread and butter? The power of the Press is a force which you have in your hands, and which you have put to the proper purpose,
I conclude with all good wishes for the success of the "Daily Press," and sincerely hope that this precedent will be, followed with other determined efforts to keep the news to the fore in the public interest.
Yours faithfully,
'DONN ALLERTON.”
"MENTAL AGITATION”
Fake Editor, “ Hong Kong Daily Fress.")
Dear Sir,---I wonder if our Medical Department realises to what degree of mental agitation we are suffering in the absence of any official report on the Dysentery Scourge? ¦
* I have been a resident of Hong Kong for many years and have always purchased local food products for my table. But now I go in fear of having any such foodstuffs in my household lest they might be contaminated by dysentery germs. What am I to do about it?
Keep to canned foods until the Medical Department tells me what is causing all this uproar?
and Tours, faithfully, But
