SHEUNG SHUI HANDICAP Five ponies faced the starter, and King's Justice was early into a five length lead with Mistake Bay, Rose Queen, Badko and King's Fancy following in the order named. Inj the home straight the leader was too far ahead to be overtaken, but Rose Queen overtook King's Justice to Anish second.
HONG KONG ST. LEGER The Hong Kong St. Leger gave Mr. Leo Frost his second win. There were only three starters and from the commencement it was evident that the race would be between Bear Claw and Honey- moon Eve, the Derby winner,
Bear Claw went into the lead at the start, but Honeymoon Eve was in close attendance and kept only about half a length behind all the time. After the feld had passed the post for the first time, however, Bear Claw drew away and by the time the Rock was reached it was leading comfortably by many lengths. On coming into the home stretch, however, Mr.. Black closed in on the leader, but he had left his challenge too late. Dawn Stor, out of the picture right through, was third in a field of three.
SHUM CHEN HANDICAP The first minor upset was pro- vided when Bright View, ridden by Mr. Y. T. Fung, came in first with Jungle Jim (Mr. S. Y. Liang) second and the hot favourite, Pontiac Bay (Mr. L. G. Frost) third.
At the Football Stands Perfect Day moved up into the lead, with Strathroy lying second and Centre Court third, but Hollday Eve then came up strongly, followed by Election In the home stretch, Strathroy overhauled Perfect Day. but it was at this stage that mec- tron produced a tremendous burst of speed which just falled. Perfect Day was third.
