ERROR THAT PLEASED COLLECTORS

Interest In air-mail stamps is shown by the hobby of collecting air-mail covers carried by planeer Empire services. A representative collection of such covers tells the story of the development of the Aying mails which now connect England with Egypt, India, África. Malaya, Hong Kong, and Australia.

Throughout the Empire, there is a growing interest in the collection of data connected with the Empire air mails. The collection of air- mall stamps and covers, though a | comparatively recent hobby on a large scale, has become wide- spread. It was in 1925 that Messrs. Harmer stamp auctioneers, held in London a pioneer auction of air stamps and down covers.

ATLANTIC ADVENTURE "Since then," explains a member of the firm, "more and more col- lectors have become -air-minded. Here, for example, is one of the letters which Harry Hawker car- ried with him when he made the first attempt to dy non-step ácross. the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland. That fight ended in a forced descent in mid-Atlantic, Hawker was rescued by a steamer, but his plane, containing a bag of special malls, floated about in the Atlantic tin It was salved by. another vessel.
