Laudable Tributes Paid

The Hon. Sir William Shenton, who in leaving the Colony on retirement on April 4, was entertained to a farewell fancheon yesterday in the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel by mcm- bers of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and the China Association (Hong Kong Branch). Other guests were: His Excellency the Governor' (Sir Andrew Caldecott), Sir Thomas Southern (Governor-designate of Gambia), the Attorney General (Mr. C. G. Alabaster, K. C.), Sir William Hornell (Vice-Chancel- lor of the University), Mr. A. S. Campbell (Commissioner of the Chinese Maritime Customs, Kowloon and District) and Sir WII- Ham Shenton's Uneficial colleagues on the Legislative Council (the Hon. Mr. J. F. Braga and the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo). Other Unofficial Members of Council were present in the capacity of hosts, viz., the Hon. Sir Henry Pollock and the Hon. Mr. T. N. "Chau. The hosts also included Sir Shonson Chow and Mr. J. Owen Hughes, former members of Council. The Hon. Dr. S. W. Ta'o and Dr. E. H. Kotewall wrote expressing regret that ab- sence from the Colony prevented their being present as hosts. Sir Robert Ho Tung was similarly prevented by hidisposition. The Acting Chief Justice (Mr. R.E.
