La Cigale Wins In Grand Style

but
Ma! Wal, the Hong Kong Wham- pas Dock's new ketch, had been showing to advantage on the way down to the mark, and turned it amongst the four tonners, then a long gap and the rear was brought up by Cherub, Norseman, Luana and Quest well spread out at big intervals.
On Sunday the Yacht Club sall- had been eliminated by having to ed the fourth Cruiser Champion-do a long losing leg. ship race over a thirty one mile course from North Point, to the rocks off Lingting Island and back; the winds were light and changeabe for most of the day and 1 looked somewhat doubtful as to whether any of the yachts would manage to finish the course. La Cigale sprang a surprise on the mixed cruiser section of the fleet by crossing the line at 7.19 p.m.. exactly eleven minutes before the stipulated hour for cancelling the race. None of the Four. Tonners succeeded in finishing before 7.30 pm, so the upsho: of the day's sport was a completed race for the Cruisers and-a resall for the Four Tenners.
The Four Tonners were off at a light North East 9.50 a.m. to wind, with spinnakers set to star- board and the Cruisers followed at 10.00 a.m. The run down the har- bour was slow, with only the gen tlest of zephyrs and a ficod tide, but the Four Tonners got the bes: of what there was and opened up a big lead on the Cruisers.

AT EAST LAMMA
As the yachts crossed the East Lamma Channel the wind backed round to due West and the cutward trip was started with a close reach on the starboard tack. The Four Tonners were starting to string out with Typhoon again in the front, creeping away from the fleet, and the Cruisers rapidly overtianling the small boats, headed by La Cigale. The wind was still dis- tinetly light and the sea calin," so it was obviously La Cigale's day and she was making the most of it; with topsall, flying 31b, naker and reaching, Jib set, she was catching every bit of the light breezes and driving along in most graceful style.
