Large Crowd To Watch Events
Some splendid horsemanship was witnessed yesterday afternoon at the Hong Kong Polo Club. during a gymkhana meeting which attracted a large crowd of specta tors. Lady Southern, who later distributed the prizes at the con- elusion of the events, was BJX interested spectator. There were eight events on the programme, which Included tent-pegging. handy hunter competition and bare back wrestling. The last mentioned event caused a great deal of amusement, two teams of four riders taking part.. In order to distinguish between the com- petitors, one side took the field without any shirts on. All were made to ride bareback and the contest took place in a confined "The Rest" comprising of Mr. J. Butcher. Lt. E. G. Parker Jarvis. L.Johnson, and Mr. J. Felden defeated the Royal Artis- lery.

The smuggling of a Plato MS. out of Greek monastery inside a basket of laves about, a century ago is described in a footnote to a manuscript, shown in an exhibi- tion of classical treasures which opens at the Bodletan to-morrow to mark the bimillenary of Horace. The exhibition will continue until Dec. 21,
The MS.. the *Bodician" Or "Clarkian MS. (B)" of Plato. was brought by Dr. Edward Daniel Clarke from the monastery of St. John, which stands on the highest point of the mountainous island of 15 Patmos.
