THE LATEST IN PARIS
"Pirate" Gowns For Evenings
Paris is taking more than usual interest in the new "pirate" fas- hions which have been launched by Heim for informal summer holiday wear.
They were shown at a display of the latest in beach wear for the bathing season. In this new beach wear masculine trends are challenged for those of more fe- minine cast.
Materials change from exotic cotton prints to velvets that show of the spots, slks, plain and printed wool jersey-all of which. have been treated specially to stand the test of sun rays, and sea water. This applies to colours in sunny yellows, orange, or pale blue printed with white, red, brown, navy, or royal blue. Separ- ate knee or half-length skirts, draping from back, to knot in "sarong" fashion at centre front, cover pareo trunks when they are not cut in a special style to drape and knot likewise.
IN MATCHING VELVETS There is a wide range in tops. The brassiere is being skilfully shaped to swathe down and round the body on a flat fichu line. High waist-to-neck fronts break away at shoulders to trellis work in narrow 8,raps over back. Some of these pareos are in matching ve vets and diaphanous diapheas.
Dlapties are more opaque thar transparent in pure silk. These new beach silks snack somewhat of organdle, but have a perman- ent stiness that gives firmness to clinging bathing raiment. The garment encourages Intense sun- basking at the offeet without dis- astrous resulta. In short, it is

that will bronze the wearer grad-, ually to an Ethiopian tint.
How do they look and how are they made? Well, I will tell you, The answer to the first question is "charming and feminine" and to the second ground length" with a hood adjustment.
Ground lengths roll fairly wide from the semi-fitted cost basis, which just meets down the centre front over pareo, and backs are either open or closed.
Short puffed of cape sleeves continue themes, and the hoods covering heads end by making bow-ties, neck-swathes or top-over: drops

SUN TESTED
Plain colours prevail in these new beach garments, and they are sun tested in navy, royal blue, dark red, emerald green, bright yellow, two tones of brown in. dark and light chestnut shades."
White is there to contrast over” a. black jersay parco with a high front showing white marguerites distributed down either side. Con- trasting notes are not always stressed with emerald green meet- ing over emerald, and royal or navy identical blues.
Dlapheas and pareos not only match or contrast for basking in the sands, but are made with changes for "x-fresc dinner on hot summer nights. One of these changes completes a difference lo the form of bathing suits of mat or dark brown brilliant cello- phane sequins glistening beneath white or brown opaque silken ccats. The two garments blend harmoniously with one covering the nud'stic trend of the other.
The charm is much in the "Pir-" ate gowns with full-length print- ed linen skirts and nudist tops of plain-coloured velvet, that may be covered by Etori jackets with puff *sleeves

I have just heard that Maizee's

In reflecting ideas from the Far East, perhaps the most subtle and less puraned is the short-waisted, tight-fitting jacket that shows a narrow stretch of nudity between it and belts of summer evening "Pirate" gowns.
