Geneva, June 7. Japan has accepted the invita tion of the League Council that she should continue to be represented. on the Oplum Advisory Committee. The present session of this Com- mittée is displaying a certain live- liness, the members being persistent in their requests for explanations of reports and returns concerning drug trafle which do not suggest conformity with the principles of the oplum conventions. Interest was aroused, for example, by the report of Persia for 1933, which re- cords an export of over 119,000 kilo- grammes of opium to China for that year. although the import" of oplum is formally prohibited in China, The Chinese delegate sald that if this traffe continued the efforts which his Government were making to stamp out the oplum evli would be rendered futile. The Perslan delegate stated that no mystery could surround the im- port into China of so large & quan- tity of opium: opium production in " Fersta had been much reduced in recent years, and if there were no demand it would naturally be re- cuced further.
