THE SILVER

BLOC

Expresses Its Disapproval

Washington, June 18, The unofficial Silver Hoc in the Senate is planning a campaign to force its policy upon the. Adminis- tration. The entire group meets to-morrow U. dicuss a platef action.

Senator Patrick McCarran says the group is dissatisfied with the recent letter from Mr. Henry Mor- genthau, Secretary of the Treasury. in which he answered their ques- tloms as to the intentions of the Government with respect to its silver purchase programme.

The Silver Bloc interprets Mr. Morgenthau's reply to mean that the Treasury does not intend to go ahead with its planned program- me, purchasing metal balance silver and gold stocks and even- tually to increase silver's price to $1.29 per ounce.

It will be recsued that MT. MOE genthau declared in his letter that he believed the sudden abnormal tise in sliver's price to 81 cents in the latter part of April was the result of the abnormal operation of market forces, the manipula- Hon of special interests.

He added that the general opinion was that the letter indicated that the Treasury was not going ahead with its silver purchase program- me.

The general policy outlined in the Secretary of the Treasury's letter was unsatisfactory to the silver group, Senator McCarran stated. They would meet to-mor- row, he went on, to discuss the letter and plan action for the con-
