Perfection In Tailoring
The milliners are very active, Reboux is making hats with brims which are warn tilted over the brow after the fashion of 1850. She is also making boater hats and bereis for morning and coun- try wear Louise Bourbon is sell- ing large tulle and lace hats trim- med with velvet ribbon. Flowers are used to trim straw and net. Sequins are sewn on lace and net. Black lace is stretched over col- oured silk foundations. The hats of the season are decorative and feminine in style.
At a recent ball striped taffetas dresses were the fashion; black and white, blue and white, yellow, white and black, red and green. and, again, black and white bro- caded with bunches of flowers. The full skirt and trim bodice with sleeves is the common" fas- hion for taffeta dresses.

there were bustle dresses at this ball which were also made of lat- fetas. They had square cr point- ed necklines and were drawn close about the hips to full dra- perles behind. The charm of taf- feta dresses les largely in the Any- quality of the material. thing which is not of the first quality looks shoddy. Maggy Roud's dinner dresses with wide bell sleeves brightly lined are among the styles which are easy to wear, and are perfect for a Lttle dinner at home or a theatre party.
DIFFERENT SLEEVES Sleeves are in many different styles. in fashionable afternoon leg-of-mutton dresses. The

ing a narrow back line to the bodice." Many dressmakers have used the wide armhole from which to drape graceful sleeves. The slit sleeves such as Robert Piguet delights in and the long Renals- sunce sleeve made by Jeanne Lanvin are graceful. Cape slee- ves set into a wide armhole are gathered into a wristband to be gauged on the shoulders and again at the cuffs.

The fashions now wom by day are trim and pleasing. At the Concours Hippique recently a girl wore a navy blue coat and dress with a scarf and hat of figured blue and white Surah. Another bad on a thin tweed coat
and skirt in a green and grey mixture, worn with a grey and green checked taffetas klouse cut high to the neck. The coat la made with a full basque in front, held in place by a belt. The hat matches the blouse and is shap ed like a poke bonnet with the
poke rolled back. The redingote has also been worn at the Hip- pique. It has the advantage, when made in a plain material and Hined to match, of going with any dress, figured or in a different colour. Perfection in tailoring is essential. There is no slipshod work, in the best fashions of the spring.
DAINTY NAILS
People notice your handa. Dalrity cared for nails are a great charm." At this time of year they are apt to get dry and britile. Cream should be rubbed the round the nails, after washing in softened water, every night. Nalls should be trimmed, and fled to the shape of the fingers. If the malls are thin cutting with pall scissors may be preferred toʻfiling, Varnish must tone with the colour of the lipstick and harmonise with dress colours, too.

ANKLES IN BLUE
The spirit of originality has in- vaded the stockings world. Shaded stockings in three-tone colourings have made their appearance-navy melts right down to Ught "blue; dark grey to pale grey, and brown to beige.
A mart sük stocking has an open-work front in the design of high boot facing: another 'is' en- tirely open-work in a lacy diamond desigo.
Ribbed slik stockings will be worn, and the American craze for sheet silk stocklings is going to. - attain the same popularity in
England,
Colours for stockings win be principally blege tones of all shadings-sundew, honey beige," moonmist-following the trend or the gingerbread and burnt straw group of colours, and deepening. down to more sombre, tree bark shades.
Bports, walking and golf stock- ings will be in mari mixtures and tweedy designs, Terinis sox will be mostly in 1e, and some have. Lastez yarn introduced round the top,

White and pale shades in lawn and fine lingerie shirts are often selected for town wear.
Navy or.ce again challenges black as a favourite for the town sult. Navy serge-silk, or a heavy crêpe is smart made with neat cut-away trim short skirt and jacket. With it can go a white Blouse with castellated frills-em-. broidered with dark and pale blue dots. The Hat and acces sories should spell perfection, A happy choice is a navy straw ciré, with a flat crown of white crêpe and the edge softened by a clever veil. The bag. gloves and shoes could be of fine dark navy kid, intercepted with touches of white.
This model is charming when pumicestone grey takes the place of white. In this case the blouse will be of heavy crêpe in the grey with ane stitchery.
Blues in the paler shades are. often cleverly allied with faded Illac and prim-rose. I saw`an attractive attle suit in blue cot- ton crêpe. The belt craze is charming, but fraught with
element af danger. The width of a belt should be very carefully chosen. The young and slim are wise in taking every advantage of this attactive revival from the nine- ties.
Older women will stress colour contrasts by means 0. buttons and waist buckles rather than by belts which "cut the Agure in half" too suddenly. The charm of the new spring sults, however. Hies partly in these brightly coloured leather and suede belts to wear with lighter toned shirts,
