King, who is 24 and the son of a Kentish farmer, played a pro- minent part in several Arst-class events during the last few years. He wastes no time in playing the shots. He goes up to the ball, selects a club, takes one glance at the Ine to the green, and the shot

is made.

King's view is that the more you ponder over the shot the more like- ly you are to make a mess of it. In his round of 72, the greater which was played in a part of downpour of bitterly cold rain, he stuck faithfully to the usual plan of campaign.

SCOTLAND BUYS A SCOTT

(Special Air Mail Service),

Glasgow, May 25. The Trustees of the Scottish National Galleries have acquired the Raeburn portrait of Sir Wal- ter Scott. They had been trying to buy it for many years.

The portrait is probably the last ever touched by Raeburn's brush. It was painted in 1823 and remain- ed in the artist's family until 1877. In 1922 it was included in the Burdett Coutts sale at Christie's and sold for £9000. Later it went to America for £12,000. There it formed part of the collection of

The other disaster was at the 15th, where his drive was caught in the sand-hole on the left. He just got out, placed a No. 1 iron shot over the green and took seven. Out in 42, he came back in 40-scores which are too bad to be true. COTTON FOUR SHOTS BEHIND

Henry Cotton, again, the centre of attraction, took 76; and is thus four strokes behind. With three more rounds to play he regards this as nothing. He may be right. Compston, or whom great things were expected, is on the same mark as Cotton., Compston regards the deficiency of four strokes as trtt iing.

This is probably due to there be ing no facilities for our girls, especially Miss China who takes such a keen interest in sports, to learn the game.

Perhaps next year might see the local girls emulating the feats of Dorothy Round, Helen Wills-Moody or Suzanne Lenglen in our local Wimbledon.
