The deceased was found dead on May 6 by an Annamite sergeant in
a room of the French police station in Avenue Foch, where the de- ceased was taken in an unconscious state at 2 p.m. The police station authorities thought the deceased was intoxicated at the time and | left him lying on a bed to recover. After the Coroner, Mr. C.-H. Haines. heard the evidence of the French police witnesses, the case was adjourned, pending further in- vestigations by the Shanghai Muni- cipal police, until 3.30 pm on FIT- day.

In dyed goods, for example, Bri
tish exports for the eleven months ended February 28 have risen to 90,000,000 yards, compared with 65,000,000 yards in the correspond- 56 aling period of 1933-34, and with 85,- 000,000 yards in the corresponding period of 1932-33, Japanese ex- ports of these goods during the same periods have fallen from 41,- 000,000 yards in 1932-33 to 16,000, 000 yards in 1934-35.

Singapore Fireworks Mishap

Singapore, May 14. The Marine police have been standing by along the sea wall of the Esplanade for the past two days, searching for the body of a Chinese boy who
feared drowned during the panic which followed the explosion of the Japanese, fireworks on the Espla- nade on Friday.

No body has yet been recovered. however, and no report of any youth missing from home has been made at any police station.
Three of the people who were pushed into the sea were saved by Mr. D. Suberman, a 52-year-old member of the Jewish community.
Relating his story to a Free Press reporter Mr. Silberman sald, "I was crossing the road wher, the explosions occurred, but I could
not get anywhere near the sea wall until after the brigade had extinguished the flames.
"I then saw there were a large number of people in the water, a policeman included.
I did not
know what to do and I looked round for rope to throw into the water, to help a mar, but I could find none.

"The first I caught hold of was the policeman whom I pushed into a boat which had come up, and the other two whom I helped into the boat were a Chinese boy and a Malay or a Tamil boy, I do not know his nationality. I then got into the boat myself and re- vived the policeman who seemed to be spent.
"When I was put ashore again, I searched on the Esplanade for half-an-hour for a man to whom I had given my coat and hat, but I could not find him!"

About 400 Chinese miners and one Japanese engineer were drown- ed through the flooding of a shaft of the Tzechwan Mine, on the Changtien-Poshan branch of the Klao-Ts Hallway, yesterday morn- ing.
The mishap occurred at 11.25 a.m, yesterday, water pouring fram a spring released by the dislodging of a rock, and rushing into the shaft and connecting galleries with terride force. The pumps soon
were thrown out of order by short- circuits, which also prevented the operation of the elevator cages.
All operations in the malhe were interrupted as frantic efforts were made to rescue the trapped men, who gradually were being sub- merged by the water, which filed the entire system of galleries at the rate of a metre a minute. "The at- tempts at rescue, however, had to be abandoned in about 40 minutes, when the water, had filled the shaft.
Mr. Masuzo Aihara, an engineer, was the sole Japanese victim.
The short-circuit caused by the water threw out of commission the entire electrical equipment of the mine, preventing the working of elevators and pumps in the adjoin- ing shaft. Two hundred miners in this shaft and adjoining galleries were rescued by 20 volunteers
