Hankow, May 21. After completing an active pro- gramme to Hankow, the arst sec- tion of the American Economic Mission to China left for Chung- king this morning.

Berlin, May 20. The sharemarket opened same- what weak owing to the realisa- tion of sales but steadied later, moderate advances being record- ed in a majority of the sections and making up in most cases for earlier losses. Little trading was done in the bond market, Money 31 to 31- Transocean Ruo Min.

Silver prices dropped 3/16 yester- day for both deliveries, the quota- tiona being 34-13/16 for Ready and 35 for Forward. Silver advices re- ceived reported China as having. operated both ways. India bought. Subsequently speculators sold, the. tone being weak with business done. at half-penny under the quoted In America the rate was rates. lower at 78 for Spót.

The New York-London cross rate was quoted at 491-1/2 and the London-New York at 492-1/4.

Market.

Opened easy and subsequently collapsed but re-acted slightly to- wards lunch time.

Sterling Business was done soon after the opening at 2/5-3/8 for June, July 'and Adgust. The buying rate then dropped rapidly to 2/5; at "which rate, business was done for near and forward. At this stage, the market appeared steady but agaiız weakened and business was done at 2/4-7/8, 2/4-3/4, 2/4-11/16, 2/4-5/8 and 2/4-1/2. for various deliveries. Towards 1 p.m. the market re-acted slightly and sellers came out at 2/4-9418 May-June and 2/4-5/8 July, buyers probably at 1/16 higher respectively.

U.S. Dollars

Opened with buyers at 60-1/8 with business done later at 59-1/4 and 59-1/8 for August delivery. The market closed, at 1 pm, with sellers at 58-9/16 May-June and 58-11/18 July, buyers probably at 1/8 higher respectively.

Shanghai Markel.

Early advices indicated sellers at 1/8-1/4 for near but closed easter with sellers at 1/7-15/18 for near delivery. U.S. Dollars opened with sellers at 41-1/2 for near and closed 40-7/8 for near. Easy..

Business was done after the opening at 2/4-7/18 for July. The market then steadied up and bus ness was done at 2/4-1/2 for near.
