TRAINING GALLOPS

Mistake Bay Coming To The Forefront

(BY MORNING DEW ")

Groand conditions at the course yesterday were by no means conducive to fast work, with the result that many of the gallops were on the slow side. Herod and Pacific Hall, the favourites for the Derby were both out on the track, the former going over a mile and a quarter and finishing in 29.4 seconds. Pacific Hall went the Derby distance in 3.36.4 and finished in 30.2 seconds. Another interesting gallop was that of Mistake Bay who was again sont over a mile and a half, finishing strongly in 30 seconds. Night View also moved very convincingly.

Very few Australian ponles were "clocked" yesterday morn- Ing, and the time given below in some instances were of gallops clocked last Sunday.

It is understood that the Man- chukuo and Japanese authorities concerned will make several im- portant demands, including one for indemnification as a result of: damage done by Mongol raids; and one for a guarantee of non- recurrence of such incidents on the border, when formal negotia- tions are opened.

The Mongolians wish the dete- gates to meet at Urga, but the Manchukuoans insist upon Khai- kamiao, near the scene of the present talks. The Kwantung Army headquarters (Japanese) states that Ürga is impossible as a meeting-place as the border state is under virtual blockade.--

It is understood that funds are to be collected from British firm's and residents to cover expenses of the entertainments, and it has. been suggested, that the surplus, after paying expenses, will be de- voted, to the relief of British Un- employed in Shanghai.

The Chairman has specially ex- pressed the Committee's deafre that British firms and British re- sidents should co-operate in the scheme, of celebration by decorat- Ing their premises by day and illuminating them by night. ́ ́as far as they can afford. It is hoped. that a really brave display will be forthcoming in order to convey the community's sense of the signific- ance of the event.
