HON. MR. BRAGA

By

'The Scout **

The many friends of the Hon Mr. J. P. Braga will be glad to learn that he is now making favourable progress in Bospital, where he has been confined.. for some weeks with gall trouble. Mr. Braga's condition at one time gave cause for alarm, but I understand he has registered steady improve- ment every day for the past ten days and will be, in a position to receive visitors probably week. I am sure his many friends will join me in congratulating Mr. Braga on his happy recovery to health.

AFTER THIRTY YEARS

next

I am sure the Hon. Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe who left the Colony on Wednesday must have carried away

with him an Indellible memory of his many friends in Hong Kong. The large gathering which assembled at Queen's Pler to see him off was ample testimony of his popularity. After thirty Wolfe years in the Colony, Mr. must have felt, when leaving Rong Kong for good on Wednesday, that he was going away from home, since the best part of his life was spent here and since he enjoyed the friendship of such, a wide cir- cle of people from all sections of the community. The Police Force will miss him, as he was a very popular Chief with them.

NEW U.S. CONSUL

During the week, Mr. Charles L. Hoover, the newly-appointed Con- sul General of the United States. in Hong Kong arrived. It may not that Mr. be generally known Hoover 15 2 distant relation of President Hoover and that his record of service with the United States Government dates back to 1895. Mr. Hoover first passed through the Colony in 1809 so that In a sense he is no stranger here. Ht is also an author of no mean merit and has written several books. I am sure Hong Kong ex- tends Mr. Hoover a warm welcome.

MB. L. 5. GREENHILL

The Cricket Club will shortly be losing one of their most popular officers when Mr. L. 8. Greenhill goes home on retirement. Mr. Greenhill can probably tell us more about Hong Kong cricket (or ra- ther, interport cricket) than any other person in the Colony, with | the possible exception of Messrs. Hancock and Pearce. The Oricket Club will be hard put to it to and a new Becretary to All Mr. Green- hill's place as in sporting circles.

I think it is a happy idea that the two main playgrounds in Hong Kong and on the mainland should be called the Southern Playground and the MacPherson playground. Certainly no harder for the cause of the child- ten than did Mr. J. L. MacPherson, through whose instrumentality the Playgrounds came and Mr. MacPherson could noted on have picked on a better man than Bir Thomas Soutborn to work with him in the task of providing play- for the thousands of grounds children in the crowded districts.
