There was such an outcry against the punitive expedition that the Government abandoned it.

The peace expedition" is the Church Missionary Society's answer to a challenge that if the Church could suggest a Better alternative to the armed party, it should try it. On seeing that the Society was serious, the Government discouraged the proposed expedition, but, al though warned of the dangers they were running, two missionaries and wireless operator decided to un- dertake the task.
