Chinese Coal Junk Sinks

A Chinese coal junk No. 3775, tons of coal, loaded with 100 which belonged to the Lee Yick Coal Co., foundered of the shore of Hung Hum Bay at about 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, when she ran into the submerged -- rocks, receiving severe damages to the bottom of the junk,

On top of the submerged rocks. a small lighthouse has already been büllt by the Government as aj warning to "shipping, but quite by accident, the coal junk hit the rocks when she was being towed by the steam launch "Yat On to distribute coal to steamers in the harbour on Saturday morning.

During the "accident, the "Yat On "blew its siren for help, and on hearing the call, the No. 5 Water Police Launch immediately steamed towards the vicinity, and helped the Yat On" to tow the damaged Junk to the Yaumati Typhoon Shelter, but she sank on reaching the shore

Fortunately no lines were lost.

It is well known that the com- munications between Fat Shan and Sun Chung How Districts generally depend upon stone bridge, which is bullt across small river to connect these two districts.

This bridge was built for com- munications many years ago and It is now growing unsafe owing to want of proper repairs.

Recently the villagers of these two districts held 2 meeting to discuss ways and means for the reconstruction of the bridge, and as a result of the conference... it has been decided that the old bridge should be demolished, and a new cement and stane · bridge built in substitution.

During the last few months, con- struction work in connection with the new bridge has begun and It is how reported that the whole bridge has been completed and opened to the public since Wed- nesday last.
