W. S. BAILEY & CO., LTD.

Extension of Hong Kong. Shipyard

On July 25th, 1932, we drew attention to the pro posed large development of Messrs. W. S. Bailey & Co.'s Shipyard, which enterprise is now successfully accom- plished within the estimated time of eighteen months, an achievement largely due to favourable, weather conditions allowing the underwater work to go on without interrup- tion of mishap. In an undertaking of this magnitude. involving no small risks, the Contractors, Messrs. The Netherlands Harbour Works Co. are to be congratulated on the foresight and organisation attending their work from beginning to end.

NEW LARGE SLIPWAY

Besides reclaiming the foreshore of the property a further 200 feet seawards, a new and most modern slipway has been constructed cap- able of accommodating vessels up to 340 feet keel and 4,000 tons deadweight, To meet the require- ments of the programme extensive underwater work was necessary, & large part of which, due to its special nature had to be carried out in the "Dry." For this pur- pose multiple Larssen Sheet Plied Cofferdams were constructed, ex- posing the sea bed where the con-

cordance with Messrs. Bailey's in- structions, furnished the designs of the large slipway Cradle and its appointments.
