Ready Silver was unchanged yes- terday at 183 but the Forward rate rose 1/16 to 18. Silver advices having America 0.3 reported bought. The market was steady. In America the rate was higher at 44.9/16 for Spot. The market was steady.
New York advices reported the opening rate at 5.374 and the clos- ing rate at 5.42. The lowest rate done was 5,343.

Sterling,
Business was reported at 1/5. 5/32 for second half December. The market closed with sellers at 1/6.3/32 November/December and 1/51 January, buyers at 1/51 November/December and 1/5.5/32
January.
- U.S. Dollars, Business was done at 38.9/18 for the last day of November, 383 January, 38.13/16 and 387 January. Towards the close a small business was done at 384 for cash, finishing with sellers at 384 for cash, 38.9/16 December and 38.13/16 January, buyers at 1/16 higher respective- ly.
Yea. Merchants were quoted at 1207 for near delivery.

The Department of Agriculture and Forestry has now made public, for a second time, the rice crop forecast as on October 31. total crop is estimated at 65,963,430 koku. Compared with the first forecast dated September 24, this shows an increase of 277,740 koku (0.4 per cent.) This increase was due obviously to the fact that, although some localities suffered Insect or storm damages, the greater part of the country enjoy- ed. favourable weather,
Ada Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. It was only normal to expect to- day's slowing following yesterday's rise. Considerable profit-taking de- veloped, but sentiment was predominantly optimistic, based on reports of better business and dividend news.
Wheat: The closing strength was due to a report that a bullish announcement was coming from Washington, but a most depressing influence in all grains was belated liquidation for December.
Cotton: Most of today's business was liquidation of December con- tracta, part of which were sales replaced by purchases for distant months. There was no real pressure at any time and Trade off-take proved suficient to absorb selling.
Silver: Opened higher on the advance in the Sterling and reached new high levels under buying by commission-houses and short covering The advance in the Shanghai Exchange also helped. The resignation of Professor Sprague from the Treasury Department is considered bullish by the Trade.
Business Done: 1,800,000 shares.
