Arsenal Beat Villa In Close Game

LEICESTER TAKE FULL POINTS

FROM EVERTON

Thrills galore were provided for the thousands of spectators who turned out to watch the first division match between Aston Villa and the Arsenal.

The teams

were of practically equal strength, and so even was the run of play that the result was in doubt right up till the time the final whistle was sounded. The Arsenal won by the odd goal in five, but they had to fight every minute of the game for their victory, which, under the circumstances was a well-deserved one.

The results, as cabled by Reuter, together with the league table, follows:-

The Visitors "Cup was won by A T Braley (Kowloon Golf Club) who went round in 81 in the morning but fell off considerably in the after. noon when he did it in 89. Last year's winner, D. C. Wilson, made a bold bid to repeat his past suc- cess but he want round in 87 in the morning, and his card showed a total of 172 for the two rounds.

As is well-known, these champion- ships are not confined to members of the Fanling Club, but are open to all golfers in the Colony. At yea- terday's matches, members of the Kowtoon, Shatin (Japanese)" and Country Clubs, as well as a few re presentatives of the Junior Section, Royal Hong Kong Golf Club, took part, and the keenness in which all the matches were played off spoke well for the future of the competition.

MARTON'S GAÄLE.

Seen after the competitions, one of those who took part told the writer that Marton fully deserved to the title as he played excellent all-round golf right through. His iron shots were described as brilli-, ant, and his putting steady, and last, but by no means the least, his insurpassable tee "shots contributed "P WEDFA Ptain a large measure to his success Charlton ..19 7 3 2 38 19 10

Training Gallops

(By "MORNING DEW.")

Below will be found the training times clocked on Saturday, Warrington is still doing very slow work in preparation for the - St. Leger, where he will probably start favourite.

4

Night Star, the favourite in the Australian class moved very well indeed, while, I need hardly say Trentbridge is fit and ready for next Saturday's big race.

1

Burgomaster went over a slow mile and a half taking 3 minutes 51 seconds for the Journey, doing a fast last quarter only (31.2). Brechin galloped very well and is not so inclined to bore out nowadays. "Golden Dragon and Jingle went out together and did slow three quarters of a mile. The former was looking · very well

Portia and Rosy Morn both went well and if they can stay the distance should be able to give Night Star a race.

Partnership, one of the biggest dangers in the Subs' St. Leger went over six furlongs and displayed convincing form.
