East Asiatic Rubber Estates.

Loudon, August 1st." The Tenth Annual General Meet ing of East Asiatic Rubber Estates, Limited, was held yesterday at 2/4, Idol Lane, London, B.C.

Lord Hutchison of Montrose, K.C.M.G, C.B., D.S.O. (the chair man), who presided, said that the net profit for the year, thanks to the dividend received from the sub- sidiary company, Teluk Merbau Plantations, Limited, amounted to £4,833, which it was. proposed to carry forward. The directors had 3187 examined the position of the carry forward to see if they were justified $140

in recommending a small dividend, $17 but for the moment they had de cided against it. However, the possibility of paying a small in- terim dividend at the end of the year if the position then permitte was in the minds of the directors.

The company's financial position was extremely sound, as, they had £30,574 invested in British Govern ment securities, as well as £63,911 on deposit and in caah, making & tital of £100,496, which meant that their general reserve was more than covered by their cash resources. In addition, they had 2,737,500 fully- paid shares of 2s, eath in the Telak Merbau Plantations, Limited, which had made a profit for the year of £13,015 and had paid a dividend o 3 per cent

There was the usual talks of con. trol or regulation of production 11240 flying about and duly reported in the Press from time to time, but he would suggest that until they had definite official information no notice should he taken of these. There were signs of increased con- sumption in the world, and more especially in America, and her ven tured to say the outlook to-day was better than it had been for the past three years, and he had hopes that the depression over their ing dustry was at last passing away.

Asia Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New-

York correspondents, E. A. Pierce & Co. The improvement in the wheat, cotton and grain markets was responsible for the up-turn. According, to the information of floor observers, there was little or no evidence of large blocks being offered around the present prices. The ease at: which active issues advanced was a feature and apparently a demon- stration that no large scale liquidation is anticipated at the moment. The unwillingness of hig holders to dispose of equities indicates that the market situation should remain fundamentally sound. Wheat: Confidence is evidently restored. Talk of large scale buying brought support from Winnipeg. Cotton: Values reflected the improved grain sentiment, continuing yesterday's advancing trend. The Trade. Europe and shorts bought early, Later buying was mostly speculative on investment account, perhaps induced by the renewal of inflationary talk Hedge celling appeared at the close: Silver: There was good Trade and Bank buying early in the day. Business Done: 2,470,000 shares.

The main featured of the agrce- ment are that the Italian Govern- ment shall not sell more than" an average of 35,000,000oz. per annum, exclusive od sales for payment of War Debts. Thus, for the next four years the Indian Government is permitted to sell more than they have been doing since 1927. The Chinese Government agrees not to 281 sell demonetized silver, but it is not thought that this applies to sysse, about 125,000,000oz, of which is held by the banks in Shanghai. The Governments of Australia, Chondo, U.S.A., Mexico, and Peru agree not to sell any silver for four Sears and to absorb between them 35,000,0000z; from their "mine pro duction each year. We understand that Mexico alooo utilized about 17,000,000oz. Last year, so that the balance of about 18,000,000oz. cover ed by the agreement is not a very large figure.
