Messrs. Reza Bros, have forward- ed us the following Exchango' Market Report for yesterday-
Silver prices rose yesterday to the extent of 1/2 for Ready and For ward, the quotations being 18.7/16 and 18.9/16 respectively. The rise was attributed to general demand. Sellers were holding back. China was a large buyer at 1/8 under the quoted rates In America the rate was higher af 38.13/16 for Spot. The market was strong.
New York advices reported the opening mte nt 4.66,3/4 and the closing rate at 4.741. The, highest rate was 4.77).
With the exception of the Shang hai rate which was, unchanged it 110 and the Bangkok rate which was put down to 133, ather rates were Fut up at the opening followed by another rate at 12.30 p.m.
Market.

It is claimed that the new pró- cess renders wool fabrics perman- ently white and not susceptible to yellowing when washed or dry- élenned
The patha leading to this dis covery are given in a statement hy the association. A manufacturer had returned to him by a retailer a coloured woollen jumper which had been returned by a womIAN owing to its having inded badly in parts.
Investigations showed that the woman had worn it when cooking, and research produced the fact that the sulphur dioxide in the air com bined with alkali left in the fabric led to the fading. This, to the re- -search chemists, "explained the de- terioration in eulour of dyed fabrics

The exact chemical conditions now have been ascertained with which relatively small quantities of sulphur dioxide will exert a mark. ed bleaching effect. The new pro- cess has been commercially estab lished and has been confirmed by tests both at home and in India and Australia, Tests have shown that fabrics made by the new pro- cessed wool become even whiter, after being laundered many times than when new.

York correspondents, E. A Pierce & Co. Because of irregular fluctua tions and there being no demand for the so-called leaders, there is a disposition in some quarters to question the soundness of the market. We think such argument is exaggerated in importance as the underly- ing tone has looked quite confident and we think that reactionary teriencies are waning. Wheat: Continued bullish crop reports from all producing quarters kept bullish enthusiasm at a high pitch. Profit- taking has been readily absorbed. Cotton: A heavy general demand under the influence of the Administration's statement to the effect that the acreage abandonment campaign has been successful for contracta scarce. Temperatures have been excessively high. Silver. There were further public participation on the buying side and also good trade demand. Offerings were scattered and principally in the form of profit- taking.

"High water in the Yangtazo and Yellow rivers threatens widespread flood conditions. throughout the Central and North China areas. A more optimistic feeling prevails in regard to the credit situation, and the improved exchange position is causing material interest in Ameri can products although orders are confined to immediate needs and importers refuse to speculate inventories. The credit situation shows the first improvement in many months.
