Shanghai, June 22-This area still continues to show more as- tivity than any others, during the past month and though the total valumne of sales here is not very big, yet many small properties are continually being bought up and genuine offers at reasonable rates hardly ever remain long on the
market.
The most difficult feature of traï-. ing in farm land area is the un- reliability of offers received from brokers who have not definitely.
fixed price with the owner or owners, and who once a verbal ac ceptance of their offers has been obtained, are not able to close the deal and the prospective buyer has to listen to a long list of extras which are necessary before the pur chase can be completed coupled with a rise in price. It is wise to be sure of options before setting one's heart on a ́particular piece of land..
Rentals in this area are. parti. cularly good and most houses are let long before they are completed especially if they have a reasonable garden attached
·
Building continues steadily, and constantly one sees freeh bits of Merchants were quoted at 10 land being fenced in, it is interest- for near delivery.

Ásta Landa, Limited, has received the following report from their New York correspondents, E. A. Fierce & Co. Encouraging general business news is evidently a big market factor, as well as the great strength of wheat. We think that motor and steal usass promise to lead the market and believe that there are progicta- for higher prices early next week. Wheat: A persistent broads and general demand from houses with Eastern connections, inspired by lack of improvement in the crop report and rumours that Australia id agreeing to a crop re- striction programme, was responsible for an advance. There was a slight recession near the close. Cotton: There has been a good general demand. The development of erop abandonment will be an important factor from now on. The weather is unfavourable. Silver: Quiet. A narrow market, with the chief demand coming from investors. Business Done: 1,700,000 shares.
