*** MOST FAVOURED NATION"

A statement circulated by the Board of Trade takes some of the force from Mr. Runciman's recent declaration that Britain would pot be prepared to go on indefinite- ly granting most-favoured-nation treatment.

According to this document 32 of the 60 countries invited to the Economic Conference have commer cial treaties with Britain grant- ing most-favourad-nation treatment. which could not be terminated within six months.

Of these 32, those with 23 coun- tries, including Crechoslovakia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Holland, Norway, Sweden and the U.S. re quire one year's notice of denun- ciation. Hungary is safe until July, 1837; Persia (which has struck a hard oil bargain with us) until May, 1936, once the pre- sent provisional treaty is ratified; and Panama until April, 1939.
