PRIPING, Apr. 9. SERIOUS fighting has been pro- gressing yesterday and to-day in the district around Chinwangtao, and reports of the fall of the city into the hands of the so-called Man- chukuo Independents are being awaited with deep concern.
The Chinese troops are putting up a stiff resistance but consider- able anxiety as to the outcome of the battle 19 being felt by the city residents, for despite the Chinese claims of success it is possible that the city may shortly be captured, though not by Japanese regular
troops.
The Japanese deny having any. connection with the attack, but the Chiness officials allege that more than moral support is being given to the Manchukue forces. Further Chinese reports state that Japanese aeroplanes are aiding the attackers.
