I have much pleasure in second- ing the motion for the adoption of the accounts for the year 1932, and in doing so I desire to touch upon one mutter referred to in the Act- ing President's address, that is. the reference made to the inaugura- tion of the new vehicular ferry and & boon which has come na blessing to motorists. It creates a now era in motoring in this Colony -one which should unite the Island

and the Mainland and their spective residents more closely.

ré-

I cannot review this matter without a regrat at the passing 2 the familiar ferry lighters which have offered 175 such useful You service for many years. may say there are no regrats, but there disagree. The regret I really refer to is the close of such a splendid exampla of public ser- vice rendered by the two utility Companies, the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Co, Lid, and the Star Ferry Co. Ltd, both of which have equally borne financial lees in rendering a public'

service.

In the year 1918 only 366 cars were transported across the har bour. In 1924, 4085 cars were no transported and the figures for 1925, 1928 and last year were 3927, 4220 and 9170 respectively.

Our Chairman today, I notice, has expressed no thanks to thes Companies, and I can only suspect that being connected with the two.

London, March 6.The British Industries Fair, which ended last night, left exhibitors in all three sections, the heavy industries at Castle Bromwich, the lighter indus tries at Olympia, and textiles and furniture at the White City, well satisfied that a very large amount of business had been done. Fair has now become so large and contains so many exhibitors that it is difficult to form any estimate of the value of the orders received, but extensive inquiries in all sec tions show that most of the firme. occupying stands are agreed that it has paid them well to be among the exhibitors, and some firms have done remarkably well.

Lieutenant Colonel D. J. Colville, M.P., who as Secretary of the De partment of Overseas Trade has been in very close touch with the work which has been done, stated yesterday:-

There has been a distinctly hap py atmosphere in all sections of the Fair at Olympia, the White City, and Birmingham. Overse inquiries have been numerous and many useful orders have been plac cd, although world conditions have tended to make these not so wides- Continued on Previous Column)
