Competition in Paint Trade.

The directors of Pinchin Johnson are due to declare their final divid- end this week. The ordinary shares of this company have been a dull market in the past few days, not withstanding satisfactory announce- ments from other paint companies.

is feared that the report will make a less favourable showing this time. Competition is believed to have been keener, while the condi- tions ruling abroad have not improv- ed.

For 1931 holders of the Ordinary shares received 17 per cent. On account of the current year on in- -term of 7 per cent. has been paid, this rata being 21 per cent, smaller than the 1931 interim,

It is generally expected that the final will also be 74 per cent., which will make 15 per cent. for the year. In some quarters, however, it is pointed out that while the company paid 17 per cent. in all on the Ordinary last time only. 14 per cent was earned.

Aria Landa, Limited, have received the following report from their New Fork correspondente, E. A Pierce & Co. A steady drift to lower prices robbed the market of all initiative. Some support was forthcoming this afternoon but it was of a negative character. We think the risest policy is to allow a re-action to develop itself before taking the "long"- ⚫ side.
