The contents include time tests of intelligence,crOSS word puzzles, scrostics, anagrams, chess and card problems, together with forty of the famous Cali- ban" questions: solutions are given in an appendix, und almost the entire book is original, with the exception of the card and chess problems. The anthology is neces sarily described as "unsociable " because the intellectual tests (aro mostly severe and surmon the student to solitude, silence, and desperate concentration. However, a percentage of the questions lend themselves to mass attack; the time tests of intelligence, for example, are entirely suitable for an adult Christmas party, whilst the cross word, ohess, and contract bridge tests can be tackled by small part- nerships of two or three people. The book is a classic of its kind and is extremely good value for money, though the general excel- lence of its contents is balameed by some difficult typography.
