Liverpool. The Liverpool Steam Ship Owners Association are an tagonistic to schemes for the reduc. tion of shipping.

At a meeting held last month, they placed on record their view that none of the schemes for the scrapping and laying up af tön- nage which had been put forward with the object of assisting the shipping ndustry, held out promise of sufficient national and interna- tional co-operation, and that they would be unworkable in practice.

It was added that any steps to btain the cessation of subsidies or other assistance for shipping by Governments-which had been an important cause of the distress from which all merchant shipping was suffering-would be welcomed.
