FRASER & CO'S WEEKLY REPORT
Messrs. Fraser & Co., Singapore, in their weekly report dated Oc- tober 5, stato:-
During the phat week there have been no special features calling for comment in any section of the local share market, and with a slightly $1,2 casior feeling provailing all round, business has been on a somewhat restricted scale. End of the month' Tin statistics proved rather dianp- pointing and with buying interest on the small side, the price of the metal has again fallen off, closing how- ever slightly better at £183.5.0 for the three months' position. *000 omitted. 1000,000 omitted. Summary-After advancing in the early part of the week. under review, shores turned reactionary and moved irregularly downward. The break in wheat prices was to some extent respon- sible for the declining market. Steel production continued to advance and further gains are looked for. Security loans increased over the previous week, while "All other tonus," for the most part representing business loans, showed a decrease. Irregular and nervous fluctuation of cotton and weakness in wheat fentured the commodity markets.
Outlook.-A market recovery that has flourished" on psycho- logien and scini political influences must, for its further well- being require the sustenance of healthy carning power. Third quartor canings will disclose no evidence of an abrupt reversal of trend, and the course of the fourth quarter cannot yet be gauged. Thus, further irregularity would be a normal development, but in the belief that substantial buying power would be likely to enter the market on 'a downward scale, a decline of more than technical proportions should not be anticipated.

In 1926 the Estimates Committee went into the question of the supply of British Typewriters for the Public Service Your Committee have pursued this inquiry and are gratified to learn that only British Typewriters are now purchased for general use; that the supply has been fully equal to the demand, and that both in price and quality they are fully equal to the imported article,

Flight Lieutenant Oliver, station- ed at Uparon Aerodrome, said he did not agree that matches caused the accident. Flying Officer Guy Willoughby said that when Haw- kin's single-seater machine was at a height of over 3,000ft, it cominent- ed to roll: "The left wing broke," he said. "Then a lump, which I think was the engine fell out. Then the other wing broke and another lump fell out. The rest of the air- craft then disintegrated." Flight Sergent Bramley said the machine practically fell to bita. A verdict of "Death from multiple injuries arising from tde machino breaking, in the air and crashing" was re- corded.
SEA AS NATIONAL TRAFFIC ROUTE
LORD BEATTY'S APPEAL
more
Admiral of the Fleet Earl Beat- ty, in a letter to the Times pleads that the position of Britain's port- to-port traffio by sen is one for, a public concern comparable with that shown on the road and railway question. It our Port Authoritica, -Chambers of Shiping, and others concerned in this matter had been allowed to give evidence at the re- cent Government inquiry a complete conspectus of our inland transport problems would, possibly, have been manifest in the report.
It would seem odd, Lord Beatty writes, if water carriage, which wears out no roads or rails, wheels or tyres, were really dearer or less suitable for many classes of traffic than land-borne transport. But, whatever the cost, the maintenance of our sea roads as well as our sea-
faring population was vital from the national point of view.
