SEQUEL TO ARREST IN SINGAPORE,
London, March 4-Norman Kir kup, who was arrested in Singa pore, was brought up at the Long Ashton scssional count near Bristol on a charge of bigamy and remand. ed until March 11.
The arrest of a man described as being of Canadian origin and ans woring to the name of Dr. Norman Nelson Kirkup created a sensation in Singapore, on the morning of Decisumber 13st when the P and O. Karmals Berthed alongside the Tanjong Pagar wharves. The man was accompanied by a young, and pretty woman who was referred to as Mrs Kirkup. The arrest, which was made by the Singapore Detec tive Branch, was a result of cabled instructions received from Scotland Yard and the Colonal Office.

The papers further alleged that the accused had several previous convictions in England and Scol. land. He had first married Editi Florence Glass at Belfast in ̧”. 1940' and had a young son named Samuel, The name given at the time of this marriage was William Faulkner.
His alleged bigamons marriage was, according to the documents, contracted as Exeter, when in 1931 he married & retired farmer's danghvor named Anna Padfield Court. He was also alleged to have obtained a sum of about £180TM by fraud from the father of this girl, Bail was vigorously opposed by Mr. Tongue, and Kirkup was re- manded to the Civil Prison where he waited the arrival of an escort from England The young woman returned to England; Detective In- spector Reginald Dunster, of the Bomerset Constabulary, came out to Singapore to asoom.
