SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE.
FILM MADE OF FIVE YEARS' WORK
Mr. Lawrence Ennis, a directari of Messrs, Dorman, Long, and Co., Ltd., who is in charge of the eroes. tion of the huge Sydney Harbour bridge, gave an address on the five years' work to members of the Mid- dlesbrough Rotary Club. He said that before the actual work of eree. tion could be begun they needed granite, and ho commandeered an Aberdonian friend in Australia who had some knowledge of granite. They made their way into the bush of the Moruya district some 210 miles from Sydney, and there the coyerod granite. They imported quarrymen from Britain and had to build a village and establish a self-supporting community. Using timber, cut on their own land, tapy built houses and fited them out. with furniture and domestic aprili. unces, even down to: knives and Körkt at an inclusive bost dI £225-
per house,
They had to build a co-operative store and a school! The Inter had soon to be enlarged and there veré now 150 little Australian Abér- donians who had been born there.".
The bridge was now approaching completion. A, film of the work from beginning to end had been taken, and he had given instruc tions that it should first be shown: in Middlesbrough.
