ENGLISH AND SCOTTISH LEAGUE MATCHES ON

SATURDAY,

HIGH SCORING BY WEDNESDAY AND GRIMSBY,

ARSENAL AND HUDDERSFIELD DRAW.

Saturday's football matches in the English League produced some high scores by the home teams in all divisions. Leicester City, who defeated Aston Villa the previous week, were soundly trounced by Grimsby, who returned à score of 8-2. Aston Villa bout Blackburn by five goals to two, white Sheffield Wednesday scored seven goals to two against Sunderland, Manchester United gained their first points of the season.

Bradford and the Wolves each scored seven goals against the visitors. Everton improved their position at the top of the Second Division, while Preston North End shared the points with Baros. Joy, Stoke and Tottenham had a score of 5-0 against the visiting toams..

Notts County, leaders in the Southern Section, had to share the points. Newport secured seven out of a total of ten goals. In the Northern Section matches, Tranmere had an easy victory which carried them closer to the leadors.

An outstanding feature of the Scottish League matches was the defeat of Partick by Celtio,, who now hold the premier place on a better goal average with a match in hand,
