A remote chance, which the Civil Service C.C. had of wresting the enior championship of the lawn bowls Teague from their Valley rivals, disappeared on Saturday when the champions took the points from Taikoo to claim the honours for the third year in succession. The usual sportsmanship which at tends games between Taikoo and Craigengower" was in evidence! Laing, who acted as skip in place of Wallace, was opposed to Brad bury, and there was some lively play on this green. Laing had an early start, a four in the fourth head making the score in his favour 6-2. Bradbury retaliated with a four, and from then on continued to get the better of his opponent, the final score showing 11 shots in his favour. Another senior match this week which will attract much attention is the return game at Civil Service with the champions. In the junior division the Yacht Club have to meet Taikoo, and the latter have also to play at Kowloon C.C. The positions in the league are likely to change slightly after the close of these matches. Taikoo seniors are in third place, but the Bowling. Green might get ahead of them by one point if they win at King's Park. The Yacht Club have done quite well in getting close behind the "big two of the junior league. Taikoo can only claim this place if they win both their matches, but the Yachtsmen will have a lot to say in this matter when they meet in their outstanding fixture...

FAITH LOST IN RED LEADERS.

Paris, August 21. The strike in Northern France is collapsing and' has completely ended at Lille where the unions have accepted the compromise suggested by M. Laval, the Miniator of Labour, whereunder the employers undertake to increase wages in the event of a further rise of the cost of living.

While however work will be re sumed at Lille on Friday, the dis pute at Roubair and Tourcoing is not yet settled chiedy owing to the attitude of the local chairman of the federation of textile industri- lists who, however, is being severe- ly criticized in his own ranks.

Moreover, it is believed that the -workers are slowly losing heart and. faith in the Communists in whose bulwark, Halluin, riotous scenes ensued when it was discovered that the Communist leaders had used the relief funds of the worker, for more party purposes while the Upatrikers and their families were 118 starving.
