Before the Aberystwyth magis trates last month the licensee of the Ship and Castle Inn was charged with having supplied beer during non-permitted hours. Evidence by the police was to the effect that when they visited the house at 4.40 p.m. they found half a dozen sailors from visiting warships in the bar and one of them was drinking from a half-pint measure of beer. The licensee said, she refused to supply the man, with beer, but served him with a lemon and dash. Mr. W. P. Owen, for the defence, said the liquid would not come within the meaning of the "word beer" unless it contained more

than two per cent proof spirit. He had had a lemon and dash analysed and found it contained only 1 per cent. The bench dismissed the case.

A GROWING WORLD PORT

WITH twenty-seven square miles of W land-locked harbour, thirteen miles of developed waterfrontage and two great transcontinental railways at your service, the Port of Vancouver offers you unequalled shipping facilities. "Via Vancouver" is the shortest route through any developed seaport from the Far East to Canadian and American market centres..../...

This means a saving of time in transit, with consequent reduced interest and insurance charges. It means giving your consignees quicker, more efficient service. Vancouver is a growing world port which last year handled 9,559,889 tons of cargo. In some commodities tonnage has in- creased 100% in the past six years. The obvious reasons back of this growth are the saving in freight charges and the speedier transportation of merchandise. Ship to Canadian and American'marketa via the Port of Vancouver.""
