MOTOR-CARS LEFT IN LONDON STREETS.

POLICE POWERS TO DEAL

WITH BREAKDOWNS.

Authority possessed by the police to deal with motor-cars, which may become obstructions, whether they have been involved in an äe- cident or not, is, to be rigidly en- forced in future.. An order, enabl- ing them to remove ears in emer gency was made some time ago, but has not been generally under- stood. It gives the police the right to insist upon broken-down vehicles being removed without loss of time to a garage. A list of garages specially equipped for the speedy transport of such vehicles ta in the hands of all constables, and in the event of a driver's declining to fall

il in with the suggestion that he should telephone to a garage police officers may themselves do so and leave the owner or driver to settle the bill.

are

There are also a number of police stations equipped with break-down vans, which may be used when ac- cidents occur. These vans fitted with special appliances for lifting overturned care or raising them in order to release persons who may be pinned beneath them. As time goog on the number of these vang will be increasƏLİ

Another use to which they are likely to be put is that of removing cars which have been left by their owners in unauthorized places. In spite of official attempts to provide adequate parking, accommodation, especially in Central London, there

growing tandenges torists to leave their cara for hours in streets which are not re- garded by the authorities as suit able. Where this is done the police may regard such vehicles as having. been abandoned, and either driye or tow them to the nearest police
