New York, May 20.-Prices im proved late in to-day's session of the New York Stock Exchange and the market in general closed higher, says the daily review of the Dow Jones Financial News Agency.
In many instances, the highest «prices for the week were registered.
There was soñe profit-taking, in view of the two-day holiday to morrow and Saturday because of Memorial Day, but the gains in the general list. ranged from two to nine points.
US, Steel held fractional gains although the close found it quoted off a point, to 1733. Bethlehem closed up an eighth to 054 and Ludlam was similarly up a point to 38. Most of the other market leaders were higher,

The market is again lower as compared with week ago. Spot is reported to have been done at 6.1/i5d., which, we believe, is a record in the history of the trade.
It is difficult to account for this continued depreciation" in values apart from the general decline in all commodity markets. This haa induced a fair quantity of short elling, and, in the absence of any trade demand, it has heen difficult to absorb offerings except at lower prices.
