PRESIDENT HALL WIN BY A NARROW MARGIN IN FIRST AGGREGATE STAKES.

LOBSTER BAY THRILLS THE CROWD BY NARROW

VICTORY OVER WITTY STAG.

GOOD DISPLAY OF HORSEMANSHIP. ALL ROUND.

[By “ MORNING DEW."]

Ton very thrilling races were seen on Saturday when the Jockey Club held their Second Extra Race Meeting. The attend- ance left nothing to be desired and HE, the Officer Administer~ `` ing the Government, arrived in time for the first race; ¦.

President Hall, who was well backed for the First Aggregate Stakes, managed to win by the smallest possible margin. "Royal Flush, ridden by Mr. Heard, ran the ex-Derby winner very close indeed and many of President Hall's supporters held their breath as the ponies raced neck-and-neck the straight.

The programme opened with a race in which there was a dead heat for the first place, Mri. W. T. Southorn's African Eve ahar- ing honours with Mr. R. M. Dyer's Four Clubs. Incidentally this is Mrs Southern's first win on the local turĒ. |

In the race for non-winning griffins, Lobster Stag were absolutely together from the distance post fow yards of the finishing line. Amid great enthusiasm from sup- porters of both animals, which were equally favourite, Mr. Soares brought just that little more out of Lobster Bay that a good & jockey can, to win by a short head.

Christmas Chimes won the "B Class race, but only just! Little Thunder ran him very close and had the pony been taken out of the ruck earlier, might even have won...

The last race of the day was also very thrilling, Mr. Heard bringing" Armony home just in front of Bridge Hall. The official verdict, was Won by a neck but it looked very much less to excited supporters of Armony and Bridge Hall.

Mr. T O. Bulteel was the most successful jockey of the day, riding three winners and getting a third place. Mr. Heard had two wins, two second and two third places. Mr. Frost had two wins, a second and a third; Mr. Harriman had one winner only with two seconds and a third, while, Mr. Reidy and Mr. da Roza had a first, a second and a third respectively,

Dividends were on the attractive side, and only once in ten races did the winner pay less than evens, and that was the race which President Hall won Pagoda (Mr. Harriman up) paid the best dividend of the day, his supporters getting 23-1 out of the

tote.

The striking feature of the day's racing was the good horse- manship shown all round. Mr. Heard's victory in the last race was brilliant, as was Mr. Frost's handling of C-Moon. Mr. Soares' ca hibition on the Lobster Bay was reminiscent of the days when lic won the Derby for Sir Paul Chater. Mr. Reidy's efforts on African Eve showed excellent judgment and a thorough under- standing of his mount.

THE RACING.

In the absence of Boxing Eve, al candidates accepting for this race had their weights increased by five pounds. Chesapeake Bay (188 lbs) with Mr. Heard in the saddle was the dvourite with Winsome Stag (150 lbs.) ridden by Mr. Soares, second in demand: Both these animals were unplaced..

Winsome Stag, in spite of a bad start, took the lead early in the race and was first into the straight. Here he was passed by Four Clubs and African Eve, who fought it out between them. The two animals dead-bezted for frat place.

Fifty Fifty coming up in the last few strides just beat Chesapeake Bay out of a place. Winsome Stag was a head behind the Bay.

The time for this race was 2 minutes and 2.1-5 seconds, which is very good indeed......

First Aggregate Stakes.

Of 2,287 winning tickets in this race of five poties, President Hall carried 1,711 tickets. The pony won, but only by the shortest of short heads.

Majestic Hall went out to set a fast pace. This he succeeded in doing very well, Pickle sharing the President Hall then took the lead work with him up to the Rock. with Royal Flush right at his heels.

President Hall entered the straight first and it looked as if he would win comfortably when. Itoya! Flush came up with a great burst) of apceri, and ran the ex-Derby winner to a short hegd at the past. Pickle was a poor third,

In the finish of the fourth race was thrilling, the concluding stages of this race were even more so: This race; "once round" for hon winning griffins, attracted seven candidates and Mr. Soares on Lobster Bay, carried just a shade more money than Mr. Frost on Witty Stag.

Lobster Bay led into the straight and looked as if he would win com- fortably, when Witty Stag was brought up at the distance poat. At the mile post the ponies were to- gether, and a thrilling race, ensured aid much shouting from the sup- porters of both ponics
