PROSPECTS OF FIRST EXTRA MEETING.
FIVE-HANDICAPS OUT OF NINE RACES:
UPSET. OF FORM LIKELY.
TIPS AND SELECTIONS FOR PUNTERS.
[BY MORNING DEW."]
To-day at Happy Valley the Jockey Club will be holding their first extra meeting, and if the weather should be fine there will doubtless be a big attendance at the course. The entries are all that one could desire, and. apart from "top-notchers" like Diana Day, Apollo and Wisdom Stag, practically all the ponies which took part in the Annual Meeting will be appearing.
There are nine events "on the card, five of them handicaps, and it is probable that some big dividends will be paid, especially if conditions underfoot should prove slippery or heavy. All the Shanghai jockeys have left us and this will mean that ponies which we have looked upon as good animals, thanks to the assistance of the visiting jockeys, may prevo to be quite indifferent perform-
ors.
Chief interests is centered on the First Extra Meeting Stakes, over one mile, For this rice. President Hall and Majestic Hall, Chesapeake Bay, Adam, Picallili, Witty Stag and others among the best animals are entered. The race is discussed in detail be-" low:-
Happy Valley Handicap "A"
Class.
The programme opens with a race For "A" class animals over six furlongs, and a good field should be seen.
Boxing Eve who holds the record for this distance arries only 183 pounds and is a certainty, provided) le starts without first carrying his jockey on a trial spin. Mr. Charles, ji given this mount should be able to roup home. African Eve, I see, is only carrying the small impost of 149 pounds, and this might attract him to the post. Fair Sport at 156 pounds may also start.
The First Extra Meeting Stakes. I see that President Hall has entered here, and, if started, will have 168 pounds in the saddle. He should win in a canter, but I under- stand that the pony was not quite fit at the beginning of the week, and his owner may deside to with-
His stable companion/ hojd" him. Majestic Hall may face the starter instead, in which case I think he will be about equal favourite with Adam, who, I am sure, will go to the post. Adam holds the record for the six furlongs and the once round and should command a good deal of support for the mile, but I have, a suspicion that Majestic Hall will beat him over the distance, if both animals carry 16 pounds. However, there is just the pos- eibility of Majestic Hall accepting in the last event of the day, which appears to be bia "race. happens Adam should, win, Chesa peake Bay is another likely starter,
If that
Duke of Chantilly's good showing, at the annual meeting, wil secure a large following if he should ng cept at 153 pounds. Fifty Fifty also may find plenty of support and, as the ponies named so far have wou mucer at the Annual Meet- ing, the six furlongs for the "A" class should prove very interesting. Majestic Hall may be kept back for the mile and a quarter race, now that President Hall has been given an impest of 18 pounds which may and perhaps Picallili might also ac- keep him away. Winsome Stag. Icept. The field is bound to be see, has only a small weight of 150 big, but outside the ponies I have pounds. If Mr. Soares rides this mention, no other animal need be animal, he is about the best outsider very seriously considered. Carnival Eve 'may go out here, but the race
I can think of, as this jockey has a kanck of turning up at unexpect ed moments. Another good animal in this handicap is Chesapeake Bay, who is only carrying 149 pounds.
Having mentioned all the animals which are likely to accept because they have a good chance to win the task now left to select the best amongst them. Boxing Eve,
is a bit too short for him.
TH
Happy Valley Handicap "0" Class,
The handicapper has done a very nice bit of work here and I don't think anyone can spot the winner. Sunshine and Amusement Tax are old friends. Both carry the same

February Stakes.
This race over five furlongs for non-winning subs ought to provide a good test between Scacfell, Thracian and Iron Blood, each of which have been prominent in the annual meeting without getting a win. Thracian ought to win, if he will behave himself, and, can be made to run truly in the straight, but otherwise I think he will be beaten. Iron Blood is a good pony, but Snaefell should just about ac count for him and I think Messrs. Bellamy and Gordon, are going to get a win with their representative Gg-day
Happy Valley. Handicap "B" Class.
Billiards will carry two pounds more than the first two I have named and has to be con- sidered. Iron Blood has only 152 pounds to look after, and, Siamese Shop carries only 148 pounds. The winner. I fancy will be one of these two, though which one. I frankly confess, is a problem. I fancy the chances of Amusement Tax. Suo- shine may fill second place.
Martini Cocktail, who was second in the "B" Class Tytam Handicap, carried 153 pounds and is good for | place money. notice Zephyr has 183 pounds to carry, and if this animal should be Mr. Heard's mount there will be great doings and a close finish. However, I still Think Amusement Tax (Mr. Liang up) will win.

Wanchal Handicap “B” Class,
On the principle that "top weight is best I should tip Samaritan to win this race. I remember, of course, that The Pheasant did very well at the Anbual Meeting and, to be candid, I think these two ponies will Aght it out Between them.. To find the third pony is not an easy matter. If the Ape is kept back for this race he should get placed, otherwise I should recommend pun ters to back either Noukhail or The Jamaica. .:
Wanchai Handicap "A" Class.
Is there anything to touch Majestic Hall in this race even though he carries 160 pounds! There is Peppermint with 256, Christmas Chimes with 149 pounds;" Que Third with 150 pounde, The Tiger at 148 pounds Chesapeake Bay at 149. Which of these will I think beat Majestic Hall? Majestic if he goes to the post here will be a hot favourite, and rightly so, for the animal has a very rosy chance of carrying off the event.
Carnival Eve, the weight carrier, may start, but even then I still. think Majestic Hall will win. Carnival Eve is good for second place and Christmas Chimes or third Peppermint should occupy place. I see that "Misty Eve is entered here and if he strikes a good patch be may be prominent, but if he is going to be placed he will have to show much better form than he did at the last annual meet ing. Little Thunder with only 141 pounds to carry looks good for a place bet
