The week under review opened rather quietly, but with the per- sistent drop in Sterling Exchange creating a new low record, the local market has developed a more active tendency and we close with a good demand for the majority of stocks, both speculative and investment. at improved prices.

Banka-Hong Kong and Shang- hai Banks are higher with buyers at 81,378, after transactions from 81,330 up to this rate. The London £112 quotation has receded to (Middle).

WCSHINGTON, March 2 Mr. William H. Taft retained consciousness to-day liut his blood pressure was slowly falling again, after a period of recovery.

A physicians bulletin said that Mr. Taft's condition was not as favourable as it was yesterday.

Physicians visited the bedside of Mr. Taft for snore than an hour late to-day,

The evening medical bulletin said that Mr. Taft tock more nourish mant to-day than has been his practice of late.

Mr. Taft was semi-conscious when the physicians arrived, however, and he was not able to greet them.

·It is believed that death will take place within a few hours although Mr. Taft's vitality is praying re- markable.
