ANOTHER OIL WAR STARTED?
SUSPICIONS AROUSED BY ONE CENT DROP.

New York. February 27-Many observers to-day professed to see in the Standard Oil Co.'s reduction by one cent of the price of gasoline the beginning of the long-predicted war with Royal Dutch Shell Oil, in spite of denials issued by the Standard Oil headquarters.
Others contend that it
was a
more designed to offset the invasion of ecaboard markets by the Eastern Petroleum Corporation, a Royal Dutch subsidiary.

Osaka, February -The Oiaka Mainichi says that Lancashire de- sirca am Anglo-Japanese cotton "entente cordiale in
foreign sel markets...
Lancashire's desire, the paper states, was communicated some time ago to the leaders of the Japanese cotton industry by Mr. M. B. T. Paske-Smith, the British Consul at Osaka. The proposals are said to aim at the elimination of destruc tive competition by a division of markets, an agreement on selling prices, and dividing business by ' classification of goods.
One of the leading Japanese cotton exporters, interviewed on the subject, said he was aware of the existence of such proposals, but owing to the death of Mr. Ichizo Kodama, the president of the Toyo Menkwa, followed by the general election, there had hardly been time for the leaders in the trade to dis- cuss the question. They were, how- ever, he said, interested in the pro- nosals, and would be willing to listen to further details.
