ROYAL NAVY v. ARMY.
The following will represent the Royal Navy. Army, in Div. I League match at 2 p.m. to-day on the RN.O.S.C, ground at Kow- Joon:-
THE SEMI-FINALS. The programme opered with a fly weight contest between Pte. Mur. phy and Pte. Weaver, both of the K.O.S.B's. The fight was a close one and the former just got home on points.
The
дект item, heavy- weight contest, was brought to ẩn abrupt standstill when Pte. Wool. ley, E.0.S.B, was disqualified for hitting with an open glove, and the light was given to Pte. Morris of the Somersete.
Pte. McConnel and L/C, Palmer treated the fight fans with a fast and furious 3-round bantam-weight contest. The former deservedly won on points.
The next fight in the bantam clase was that between Pte. Johnston, K.O.S.B., and Pte, Pearce, S.L.I. This was a tame affair and went to the latter on points.
L/Opl Garduer, K.O.S.B., won rounds of applause for his game- ness in sticking threo hard rounds. with Pte. Hume of the same regi- ment. The latter was very hard on his man but Gardner stood up and fought in spite of the fact that he took much more than he gave. Hame's fight by a long margin.
Cpl. Sheraton of the Somersets had no difficulty in diaposing of Pte. Little of the same regiment. Sher- ston slipped over the knock-out punch after only about a "minute's Fighting.
The lightweights opened with Pte. Dickens, SL.I., and Pte. Gordon. K.O.S.B, going. for each other hammer and tongs. Then in the second round the former appeared to have received a punch pretty low and gave up.
"
Bds. Higgs, K.O.S.B., and L/C. Adams, SIL, had a good scrap 'Adams won ca over rounds. points.
In the lightheavies, Pte. Morris, 5.1.1, rained body punches on Sgt. Hawkett, K.OS.B., and won by the "Kuyo" route.
Another Knock-Out.
L/C. Woodhouse, S.L.I., clipped Pte. Pasco, S.L.I., on the jaw in the first round and scored a knock- out. This was in the welters and JA the same cles Pte. Gillis, K.O.S; B., beat Pte. Jones, Somer- sets, on points after three good rounds.
L/C. Finlayson, K.O.S.B., and te. Baulch fought rather tainely in the middles. Baulch won on pointe.
Pte. Spalding of the K.O.S.B. and Pte. Weare, Somersets, en- gaged in a fairly good bout-the second of the middleweight cluse. The former won on points.
The last item on the first half of the progamune was a light-heavy affair between L/C. Cullen, S.L.I., and tinr. Rutter. R.A. The former won in the 1st round as the referez stopped the fight.

Gnr. Dyer, I.A., and Pte. Mor- ris, S.L.I. The first round found Morris doing most of the leading but Dyer scored one or two "aces,' In the second round Morris appear- ed to tire and there was far too much clinching. Dyer wha still fresh although he did not do too much bitting. In the last round Morris hit rather low and Dyer got into difficulties and gave up.
Bantams.
The finals of the bantams hetween Pte. McConnell, K.O.S.B., and Pte. Penree, S.L., opened fast and furi. ous, but after about a minute, the later was content to wrestle " and cling to his man for the rest of the round. More wrestling in the beginning of the second round but as the fight progressed it im- proved, with plenty of hitting. The final round was very good and even, with McConnel, perhaps, scoring more. He won on points,

The finals of welters between L/C. Woodhouse, SLI, and Pte. Gillis, KO..B., opened very wel. There was plenty of hitting. Galls started groggy in the second but stuck it gamoly though he was often in difficulties. Woodhouse won on points, but Gillis deserves the highest praise for his gamenete. Pie, Baulch. Somersets, had Pte. Spalding, K.U.S.B., as opponent in the finals of the middle-weighte They were a very evenly watched couple, Bauch floored his oppon ent twice with nice clips, to the jaw... Although the Somersets man hit nore often in the second round, Spalding's two hooks to the jaw were very solid ones, and shook his man up a bit. Baulch piled up more points in the third to win.
KNOTTY SOCCER
PROBLEMS.
WHEN A PLAYER GETS CROCKED."
TRAINERS DUTIES,
[BY ARNOLD JOSEPHS.)"
Here is another of the series of of articles being contributed by Mr. Arnold Josephs, the famous referee, to the "Daily Expreza." -Editor
Some of the laws which govern Soccer are rigid, while there aro others in which discretion is neces sary on the part of the referee. One of the defenders, during a re-
tent
game at which I officiated, while clearing a Ball, fell and lay on the ground, apparently much hurt. The ball had gone to our of his own side, who proceeded to keep the ball in play, but when he was dispossessed of the ball there was a loud appeal from spectators for me to stop the play,
The incident lasted only a few.
accoada, and when the ball was kicked up the field and in a posi tion fair to both sides I blew fr
play to cease. I signalled for the
trainer and went over to the player, who on examination was found to be not much the worse for his injury.
The last ght on the programme was the finals of the light-heavy, weight Between Pte. Morris and L/C. Cullen both of the Someracta. After flooring his man once, Morris sent Cullen down for the count about minutes from the begin ning of the first round. "It. in in-serious than others, but with ex- teresting to note that the winner perience ont leuras to discriminate. appeared in three fights during the night and won the Heavy and Light- Heavyweights.
Presentation of Prizes.
At the conclusion" of the pro- gramme, Col. J. McB. Haskard, C.M.G., D.S.0., gave away the prizes but before doing so he said that the G.O.C. who was to have done so was at the dinner given by the Volunteers to H.E. the Gover nor and could not done. He con- gratulated the boxere on their good showing and thanked all who had helped to make the tournament a súccess.
The K.0.8.B. and the Somersets each secured 25 points for the Inter- Unit Cup and as the former wore soon leaving, he thought it was fair that they should be allowed to keep the trophy for the first half of the *year.

After the prizes were given away, three cheers were given to Col. Haskard..
Campbell,
Some cases of injury are more
There appears to be some doubt as to when a referee should stop play if a player is injured. The law which governs this point leaves it entirely to the discretion of the referee, who is, of course, always a man of experience.
A rider to Law 13 states: "If in the opinion of the referee a player has been seriously injured the game shall be stopped. This is always done, and the trainer is called on the field and the player receives attention.
There is further instruction that the player shall be removed from the field of play and the game resumed. Hence it is important that the injured player should be removed beyond the touchline as quickly as is practicable.
I have noticed that some trainers do not assist in carrying out this law, and I have on certain occa sione had to demand that the trai ner leave the field at once with without the injured player. This, no doubt, will explain why,

The International Board has fur- ther decided that "If a player is lightly injured the game shail not be stopped until the ball has ceased to be in play." This in struction is interesting, for, know- ing it, players themselves can in mediately proceed to cause play to edase by kicking the ball out of play as soon as they see one of their Lido slightly injured, but necessi tating attention.
This is very seldom done, and I have. known' Occasions when, though one of their side has been injured, play had been carried on for no little time, with the result that attention to the injured was aut forthcoming. This point is worthy of much consideration.
When a player has been injured, it is untural for a referee to look for the trainer, who usually is in a position where he can quickly get on the field, ready at the signal (Continued on next Column.)

In spite of the cold and damp weather, there was a large tura-out at the Pole ground yesterday to watch the game between the Head- quarters and the "Odd Lets" and they were not disappointed either for these teams put up a capital game.
