CHARTERED BANK'S VICTORY,
The Chartered Bank of India. beat the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, on the Chartered's ground at Northfields, on November 9, by a goal and a try (8 points) to a penalty goal and a try (6 points). Last year the Hong Kong Bank won by points to nothing, but the scoring in this year's game wag law, as has been more generally the case when these two teams meet in an annual match, the first of which was held in 1884. Prior to the chief match the "A" teams of the two banks met, when the Chartered Bank won by 29 points to nil, either side having some promising material in their respective fitteens: The kick-off in this match was a 1.45 p.m., and the first teams followed at 3 p.m.

MacLen- nas, the captain, led them plen didly. "He well did his duty in the pack, and he was invariably
